All and absolute Praise is due only unto ALLAH TA’ALA, for the blessings of Al-Qur’aan: the divine book of enlightenment, knowledge and truth.
The Qur’aan is the words of ALLAH TA’ALA as revealed to our beloved Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam). It reads in Arabic yet it speaks in so many different languages that go far beyond the tongues of man. The Qur’aan permeates at a level that linguistics cannot: it speaks to the heart, to the mind, to the soul, to all that is abstract within us. How much greater is the joy and sense of wonder and miracle when the Qur’aan opens our spiritual eyes! If you would turn your attention to the recitation of the Qur’aan one would be drawn to it, and experience a soothing tranquility in oneself, and will be awestruck with the beauty of the Qur’aan.
The meaning which we thought we had grasped expands. New worlds are opened out. As we progress, still newer, and again newer worlds, “swim into our ken”. Rivers of wisdom flow from each letter. The recitation of each word results in the blessings of ALLAH TA’ALA being showered down upon us. Every Ayat (verse) is a wave of eloquence and rhetoric. Every Surat is filled with knowledge of the past and present. The enjoyment we encounter with the rhythmic words, Subhaan-ALLAH!
Our Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: “One who recites the Qur’aan and acts upon it will be made to wear a crown woven with ‘NOOR’ and his parents will be made to wear garments, which will be more valuable than the entire world. They will say, “Almighty ALLAH! What is it that we are being given these garments for?” ‘In lieu of the reading of Qur’aan by your child,’ will be the reply.
Gentle and discerning reader! In order to reach the high level of obedience, righteousness and taqwa, we have no choice but to seek guidance in the blessed book of ALLAH, sheltering ourselves in it’s shade everyday. Read the beautiful Qur’aan regularly, reciting it carefully and pondering upon the meaning of the Aayat. Then its meaning may penetrate our minds and emotions, and our hearts and souls will be filled with the light of its pure guidance, In’Shaa’ALLAH!
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (RadhiAllahu Anhu) says: “In the house where the Qur’aan is read, the household members increase, virtues and blessings multiply, Angels descend upon them and Shaitaan quits the house. Whereas the house in which Qur’aan is not recited, life there becomes straitened and devoid of blessings, Angels leave the house and Shaitaan ravages it.”
Aa’ishah (RadhiAllahu Anha) reports that the Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: “Certainly there is always a thing in which people take pride, and that which is glory and pride for My Ummat is the Holy Qur’aan.”
Hadhrat Abu Zar (RadhiAllahu Anhu) says that he requested the Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) to give him some lasting advice, the Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: “Cultivate fear and reverence of ALLAH TA’ALA in your heart, because this is the root of all virtuous Deeds”, I asked Him to add something more and He (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: “Stick to the reading of Qur’aan, because it is “NOOR” in this life and “ZAAKHIRAH” (provision) for the Hereafter.”
Some of the foregoing tradition also disclose that the Qur’aan is illuminating. In Sharah-ul-Ihya, Hadhrat Abu Na’eem (RadhiAllahu Anhu) has reported from the Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) that the house in which Qur’aan is read shine unto the inhabitants of Jannah as do the stars shine unto the inhabitants of earth, Subhaan-ALLAH!
Hadhrat Ubaidah Mulaika (RadhiAllahu Anhu) narrates that the Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, ”O people of the Qur’aan! Do not use the Qur’aan as a pillow i.e. don’t be neglectful towards it. Recite it daily and correctly, as it ought to be read. Propagate it, recite it in a beautiful voice, and ponder over its meaning so that you may be successful. Do not be hasty to be rewarded, for you will be rewarded in the Hereafter.
Thought to ponder upon: Reciting Al-Qur’aan disciplines the soul in many respects. It teaches you what is required of you and stirs within you the need to purify your soul. Reciting the Beautiful Qur’aan enlightens the heart and reminds it of every proper conduct. In this way, it aids the other duties of Islam, bringing forth their fruits – such as: Salaah, Zakaat, Saum and Hajj. For, this is the world of ALLAH TA’ALA!
“The heart without the QUR’AAN is like a ship without a compass.”
May ALLAH TA’ALA give each and every Muslim a deep passion and longing to fully immerse oneself in the depth of the Qur’aan Sharief! Aameen…
